Welcome to Pediatric Emergency Medicine
We do everything we can to protect our children and hope that emergencies don't happen. But when they do occur, it's comforting to know that there is a place where children throughout Northern California can receive state-of-the-art, world-class emergency medical care, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That place is the Pediatric Emergency Department in the Michael W. Chapman Emergency and Trauma Center. Featuring the only Level 1 pediatric trauma center of Northern California (verified by the American College of Surgeons), serving a region of more than 33-counties.
A Caring, Compassionate Environment
Children and their families await treatment in a child-friendly and family-focused pediatric waiting room, separate from the adult emergency department waiting area. The pediatric waiting room is staffed by personnel trained to support children who are sick and help them understand what to expect while being cared for in the emergency department.
The sophisticated and spacious patient rooms feature technologies that permit health care providers to conduct state-of-the-art medical tests, such as ultrasound, at the child's bedside. the electronic medical record allows for expedited transmission and receipt of patient-care information, including electronic ordering, documentation, laboratory results and radiological information. This capability allows children to be treated quickly and minimizes the need to transport them to other parts of the hospital for evaluation.
Designed to treat the most severe, life-threatening traumatic injuries, UC Davis also is the only pediatric emergency department in the Sacramento region with board-certified physicians in pediatric emergency medicine, specializing in treating children with a wide range of pediatric emergency conditions - bumps and bruises to severe illness and injuries.
The core group of pediatric nurses not only utilize their vast knowledge and experience of pediatric critical care, but they also provide a caring environment for children and their families. they routinely provide nursing care to the most difficult and complicated patients in the region.
Once admitted to the emergency department children have access to evaluation by a wide range of world-class pediatric specialists.
