The Northern California Acute Care Research Consortium (NORCARES) was developed by a multidisciplinary team of physicians from UC Davis HealthStanford Healthcare, and UCSF Health and serves as a hub within the SIREN network.

The Strategies to Innovate EmeRgENcy Care Clinical Trials Network (SIREN) is a clinical trials network funded by the National Institutes of Health, with a goal to improve the outcomes of patients with neurologic, cardiac, respiratory and hematologic emergencies by identifying effective treatments given in the earliest stages of care.

The NORCARES Hub collaborates with and provides clinical trial support to over 30 hospitals and EMS agencies (spokes) in the Northern California and western region, drawing on large and diverse patient volumes, urban and rural geographies, and academic and community hospitals.

Emergency Medical Services

A partnership with high volume prehospital emergency medical service (EMS) systems across the region bolsters the NORCARES consortium by extending the reach and efficiency of prehospital clinical trials. EMS systems provide critical access to patients at the point of emergency care, enabling early and rapid enrollment in trials. This partnership enhances the consortium's ability to capture real-world, time-sensitive data, improves patient recruitment rates, and ensures diverse patient representation. By integrating EMS systems into the network, NORCARES can leverage their on-the-ground expertise, streamlined communication channels, and established trust within communities, ultimately strengthening the overall effectiveness and impact of our clinical trials.
