Osteopathic Manipulation Therapy
What is Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment?
Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) is a system of hands-on techniques used by osteopathic physicians (DOs) to diagnosis, treat, and prevent illness or injury and improve function. OMT techniques range from subtle touch to gentle pressure and stretching to precision thrust style maneuvers.
People of all ages can benefit from OMT for a wide variety of conditions such as headaches, low back pain, musculoskeletal pain, sinus and ear problems, menstrual cramps, and infant colic. Osteopathic physicians are not only trained in traditional allopathic medicine (similar to MD physicians), but also have special training in the musculoskeletal system and using a variety of hands-on techniques to help restore health and function and stimulate the body’s intrinsic healing power.
