Two years ago I was involved in a cycling accident that left me with a fractured clavicle, scapula (shoulder blade), three broken ribs, a concussion and road rash. I lost consciousness during the accident and was transported to Sutter Roseville as it was the closest trauma center. I was in need of surgery, but after two days I was grateful when I was advised I would be released to follow up with UC Davis Health.
From my hospital bed, I contacted my primary care/sports medicine doctor Kevin Burnham who understands how important being a competitive triathlete is to me. He connected me with orthopedic surgeon Philip Wolinsky who performed surgery on my clavicle in July 2020 as stabilizing this bone would help all the others heal correctly.
During my recovery, I spent 14 months in physical therapy where I regained my strength and range of motion. I was able to complete an Ironman 70.3 in early May of 2021 where I qualified for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in September 2021! Since then, I have completed my 11th and 12th Ironman which gets me on a list to go to the Ironman World Championships in Kona, HI.
I feel like UC Davis Health is not only home, but the best place in Sacramento to receive care. There is a huge network of specialists you can be referred to if something goes wrong. I am truly grateful for the care I received and happy to again be a competitive triathlete!
