The Pediatric Clerkship

Our clerkship focuses on how pediatric care differs from that of adults and enables medical students to build a foundation of basic knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for them to provide quality care for children and to serve as advocates for children and families.

The core pediatric clerkship curriculum at UC Davis is based on the nationally recognized curriculum developed by clerkship directors under the auspices of the Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics (COMSEP).

More About the Program

The goals of the pediatric clerkship are to:

  • Ensure that learners acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to provide quality healthcare to children regardless of which specialty they ultimately choose to pursue
  • Enable students to explore how the medical care of children is different from that of adults
  • Provide students with the opportunity to experience some of the breadth of pediatrics, from primary care pediatrics to pediatric subspecialties, so that they can decide if they are interested in a career in pediatrics
