Clinical Interests

Dr. Romano practices general internal medicine (primary and urgent care) in a team approach with physicians-in-training. Given his joint training in pediatrics, he has special interest in chronic conditions that span the age spectrum from adolescence through adulthood.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Romano's research and policy interests focus on developing, testing, and validating health care quality measures, using outcomes data to improve the quality and effectiveness of care, and studying the role of physicians and nurses in optimizing quality and safety across the health care industry.

His research program is supported by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and the California Department of Health Care Services, and has resulted in over 220 peer-reviewed publications.
