Philosophy of Care
I am interested in partnering with families whose children are seeking evaluation for developmental and behavioral concerns. My goal is to always provide patient centered, kind, supportive care and to help families gain a more complete understanding of their child's growth, behavior and development.
Clinical Interests
Dr. Akins is a developmental and behavioral pediatrician specializing in the care of children with neurodevelopmental disorders. He has special clinical interest and expertise in Autism Spectrum Disorders, Intellectual Disability and Trisomy 21.
Research/Academic Interests
Dr. Akins' research has focused on telehealth supports to families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders in remote communities, parterships between pediatric specialty providers, schools and medical home providers and utilization of complementary and alternative medicine in families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
