Philosophy of Care

Dr. Chen believes that patients can be empowered partners in their care once they are provided the tools and knowledge by their physicians. She believes that patients' personal lifestyle choices can change their health and is dedicated to educating and engaging patients in pursuing healthy lifestyle choices.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Chen is a transplant nephrologist who cares for adults who have received kidney transplants. She also evaluates patients with end stage kidney disease for transplant candidacy and potential living kidney donors for donor candidacy. She has a special interest in the lifestyle factors that contribute to transplant candidacy and post-transplant success, including nutrition and exercise interventions and assessments.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Chen is dedicated to developing a wide array of clinical trial options for patients at UC Davis and has helped to build an active and diverse portfolio of clinical trials, including studies of immunosuppression, transplant diagnostics, and post-transplant therapeutics. Her research interest focuses on the development of lifestyle interventions for transplant success, both for transplant candidates and transplant recipients. She is also interested in the identification of risk factors for chronic disease in potential living kidney donors.
