UC Davis Health – Selected Highlights 2025
Caring for patients, families and communities
At UC Davis Health, we’re honored to continue serving as an important cornerstone of our region’s health and well-being. Our teams provide nationally ranked specialty care for the most complex health conditions, personalized wellness advice for everyday life, support and leadership for initiatives that build healthier communities, and much more.
Some highlights from an eventful 2025:

Boosting our access and capabilities, in Sacramento and beyond
As the region’s only academic medical center, we’re expanding access to world-class care through new state-of-the-art facilities like our new 48X Complex outpatient surgery center, a new Folsom Medical Care Clinic for primary and specialty care, and our expanded Sacramento C Street Clinic for behavioral and specialty care. Later this decade, the new California Tower at UC Davis Medical Center will simultaneously increase both comfort for our patients and critical-care capacity for our region.

Nationally ranked, locally vital care
UC Davis Medical Center continues to serve as the major trauma, tertiary and quaternary care hospital for a 33-county area of inland Northern California that’s home more than 6 million people. We’re proud to again be ranked Sacramento’s #1 hospital by U.S. News & World Report for 2025-26, and among the nation’s best in multiple specialties. UC Davis Health is also home to the region’s only nationally ranked comprehensive children’s hospital, and its only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center.

From labs to lives
UC Davis Health continues to advance life-changing biomedical and public health research discoveries that directly improve American lives – such as a brain-computer interface to restore speech in people with paralysis, and a world-first total-body PET scanner that helps detect cancerous tumors and more. 2025 also saw the opening of Aggie Square, an innovative 1 million-square-foot innovation district near UC Davis Medical Center that brings together UC Davis scientists, private industry and communities to solve society’s most pressing challenges.

Training tomorrow’s health care leaders
Innovative interprofessional education at UC Davis Health gives the health care workforce of tomorrow the skills and values needed to lead change and improve health for all. The UC Davis School of Medicine continues to be one of the nation’s leading medical schools in primary care and research according to U.S. News & World Report rankings – and No. 17 in the country for graduates who practice in crucial primary care settings, which face chronic shortages. The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis continues to rank among the top U.S. nursing schools, with a variety of programs designed to meet workforce challenges and drive meaningful change in health care.

Better health is more than health care
We continue working beyond the walls of our hospital and medical offices to help advance health and wellness for all. For example, we’re focused on hiring, volunteering, purchasing, and investing locally as an “anchor institution” for community health. We also support farm-to-fork initiatives to help health, environment and economy, such as the Terra Madre Americas slow-food festival. By sharing more about these kinds of efforts through our Believe in Better initiative, we hope to demonstrate that better health for all is possible when committed people come together.
