The following training and consultation courses are available free for selected Sacramento County mental health providers.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents who are impacted by trauma and their caregivers. Research shows TF-CBT successfully resolves a broad array of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with single and chronic trauma experiences. Participants in this course will receive a 2-day training and 12 hours of consultation with trauma experts in order to successfully implement TF-CBT with fidelity. Training and consultation will assist clinicians in applying to become a Nationally Certified TF-CBT Therapist.

The Advanced Clinical Interventions for Sexually Exploited Youth is a 1-day training for mental health clinicians working with youth who have been sexually exploited. This training helps clinicians apply Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to this population. Participants in this training will learn assessment for identifying events and effects related to sexual exploitation, engagement and motivational interviewing strategies, harm reduction and safety interventions, and evidence-based interventions to reduce trauma-related symptoms. Additionally, participants will receive 12 hours of consultation from a trauma expert on implementing strategies learned while working through cases.

The Advanced Supportive Interventions for Sexually Exploited Youth is a 1-day training for social workers, child and family advocates, case managers, behavioral specialists, peer mentors, and other support staff who are working with sexually exploited youth. Participants will learn how to implement engagement, motivational interviewing, harm reduction, and safety interventions. Additionally, participants will learn about local resources to help support youth and their families.

Consultation will be available for mental health professional in Sacramento County. Consultation may include a face-to-face meeting with other professionals working with this population and 12 hours of contact with a trauma expert to help problem solve challenging behaviors, gather resources for various education and intervention, and implement trauma-sensitive interventions from an evidenced-based perspective. It should be noted that this consultation does not replace individual supervision and all advice and guidance must be approved by a clinician’s individual supervisor.
