Course includes: 2 days of training + 12 hours of consultation

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents who are impacted by trauma and their caregivers. Research shows TF-CBT successfully resolves a broad array of emotional and behavioral difficulties associated with single and chronic trauma experiences. Participants in this course will receive a 2-day training and 12 hours of consultation with trauma experts in order to successfully implement TF-CBT with fidelity. Training and consultation will assist clinicians in applying to become Nationally Certified TF-CBT Therapist.

Course length: 3 hours

Trauma exposure, especially chronic trauma, can have significant negative on a youth’s brain and body. Topics such as the fear response, trauma triggers, dissociation, and the protective factors of treatment and attachments will be discussed. Participants in this training will review recent studies on neuroscience and trauma including clinical case examples.

A Webcourse for Caregivers of Youth Experiencing Sex Trafficking and Exploitation

Course length: 2.5-3 hours

Parenting or caring for a youth who has been at risk and/or sexually exploited can be difficult, frustrating, and at times traumatizing. Very little research exists examining the negative effects of an experience like child sexual exploitation on the parents/caregivers. Participants in this training will receive information about child sex trafficking; how to meet the needs of youth using practical parenting strategies; as well as how to manage secondary traumatic stress with self-care strategies. This webcourse was created with support from California Department of Social Services.

**This training is for caregivers and anyone caring for a youth who has been sexually exploited**

Course length: 6 hours

The advanced training in TF-CBT is developed for clinicians who have had basic training in TF-CBT, completed consultation calls, and have had at least six months of experience implementing TF-CBT. Participants in the Advanced TF-CBT Training will extend skills related to trauma narration implementation and cognitive processing in order to effectively reduce trauma-related symptoms in children and youth.

Course length: 3 hours

Research has found that LGTBQ+ youth are victimized at higher rates by violence and abuse, as well as social stigmatization and isolation, related to their sexuality. This often results in trauma-related challenges that require mental health intervention. Participants in this advanced training will review how to apply TF-CBT in a culturally sensitive and collaborative way to LGTBQ+ youth.

Course length: 3 hours

Complex trauma which includes chronic exposure to traumatic events as well as complex trauma symptoms presentation in the domains of attachment, affect, behavior, biology, cognitive and perception. Therapists often have many questions about how to apply evidence-based, trauma-sensitive interventions for this complicated population. Participants in this advanced training will discuss how to apply TF-CBT interventions to a child or youth with complex trauma. Clinicians will learn practical strategies to help maximize coping strategies for these youth and how to safely and effectively implement gradual exposure through trauma narration.

Course length: 6 hours

Compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress and vicarious trauma are all terms used to describe the phenomenon of being impacted by exposure to trauma (primary or secondary) in the workplace. Research has suggested that negative effects are normal consequences for any professional working in the field of trauma and adversity. Participants in this training will learn to recognize symptoms of compassion fatigue and discuss both prevention and intervention techniques to help manage compassion fatigue on both an individual and an organization level. This interactive training will include self-assessment, discussion activities, and practical strategies to that can be implemented into your work to help you care for yourself while caring for others.

Parenting or caring for a youth who has been sexually exploited can be difficult, frustrating, and at times traumatizing. Very little research exists examining the negative effects of an experience like child sexual exploitation on the parents/caregivers. Participants in this training will receive an overview of the impact of sexual exploitation of minors on their caregivers and how mental health professionals and support staff can intervene to help reduce the traumatized effects and improve positive parenting with this population.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children Web Course

Course length: 6 hours

Parenting or caring for a youth who has been sexually exploited can be difficult, frustrating, and at times traumatizing. Very little research exists examining the negative effects of an experience like child sexual exploitation on the parents/caregivers. Participants in this training will learn how to implement a six-session Parent Skills curriculum specifically focused on specialized issues related to caregiving for sexually exploited youth. Topics such as managing running away/elopement behaviors and social media will be discussed.

Prerequisites:

• Introduction to Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children Web Course
• Advanced Clinical Interventions for Commercially Sexually Exploited Youth course or equivalent CSEC 102 training course.

Course lengths: 3 hours and 6 hours

Research indicates that youth who have experienced childhood maltreatment may be at greater risk of experiencing early psychosis symptoms (Read et al., 2005). However, trauma is often poorly diagnosed in individuals with psychosis. Additionally, treatment interventions for psychosis do not typically target symptoms of trauma and youth with symptoms of psychosis tend to be excluded from trauma-based treatment. This presentation will highlight the utilization of a comprehensive model, using evidence based cognitive behavioral principles, to assess, conceptualize, and treat youth presenting with both psychotic and trauma-related symptoms. Results of innovative research and case presentations will be discussed. Practical clinical decision making guidelines will be presented.

• Cognitive behavioral therapy training (course in graduate school or continued education focused primarily on CBT principles and interventions).
