NICU Foundations: GI and GU

This course provides a foundation for the assessment and nursing management associated with caring for neonates with gastrointestinal and urinary conditions. A review of the gastrointestinal and renal system will be provided. Specific neonatal gastrointestinal conditions will be presented: intestinal obstructions, malrotation/volvulus, necrotizing enterocolitis, gastroschisis and omphalocele. This course will also review genital and urinary tract conditions: inguinal hernia, ambiguous genitalia, renal failure and renal abnormalities. Ostomy care and care of the child with Short Bowel Syndrome will also be discussed.
