BRN or ANCC: Submit a Continuing Education Class Request

Please use these forms to plan a California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) continuing education course or request material. Continuing education course planning forms will only be approved when the biographical data and conflict of interest forms for all planning committee members and presenters are submitted with the course planning form.

Send the completed course planning form, course agenda, and biographical data and conflict of interest forms for all planning committee members and presenters as an e-mail attachment to hs-cppn@ucdavis.edu. We will not accept handwritten or faxed applications.

Incorporating Implicit Bias into Continuing Education Curriculum

The BRN requires that all continuing education courses that contain any direct patient care component must include curriculum on implicit bias. CPPN cannot provide CE credit for courses that fail to meet this requirement.

Gap Analysis Tool for Planning Continuing Professional Development

A gap analysis is an important tool during the beginning of an educational plan to take you from “I think I know what the problem is” to planning relevant professional development activities targeted to specifically address a clearly established professional practice gap, resulting in measurable outcomes. Analyzing a professional practice gap determines the gap between a current and desired state, underlying educational need(s), and activities needed to close the identified gap. This form is part of the Continuing Education Course Planning Form.

Submit a Request to offer an eLearning through UC Learning Center

Please use this form when submitting an eLearning request.

eLearning Submission Form (DOCX)

CPPN will develop the course using a course authoring tool such as Articulate Rise or Articulate Storyline 360. Please submit all course files and the eLearning Submission Form to hs-cppn@ucdavis.edu. Please allow up to 30 days for processing.

Best Practices

  • Design your eLearning in PowerPoint using a health system-approved template.
  • All course materials (documents, text, images, videos, etc.) must meet accessibility best practices and standards to meet ADA requirements and to affirm the Principles of Community.
  • If you have a large video, please provide the YouTube link or provide the video file and CPPN will upload it to our YouTube channel. Small video files may be embedded directly in the course. You may provide the captions as a separate file or CPPN will use YouTube or Microsoft Stream for automatic caption generation. Do not send videos with hard coded captions as this will not meet accessibility requirements.
  • If there is a post-test, please submit the test as a separate Word document with the answers in bold or highlighted.
  • You may also develop and submit your own courses with a course authoring tool or submit courses provided by a vendor in an LMS compatible format.

Questions

If you have any questions regarding developing or submitting an eLearning request, please contact the coordinators.

Submit a Request to Offer a Microlearning Session

Please use this form when submitting a Microlearning Submission request.

Microlearning Submission Form

  • Approval process: Each session is reviewed and approved by the Professional Council using the structured process outlined in the microlearning submission form.
  • Development and review: Sessions developed by healthcare professionals and reviewed by subject matter experts.
  • Distribution: Submitters receive a unique URL and QR code that can be distributed on flyers, huddle boards, or unit websites.

Resources

Best Practices

  • Microlearning submissions are not limited to video; they can be tip sheet(s), images, and audio files. Submissions should take no more than 3-5 minutes for learners to view or read and include the following:
    • Learning objectives (What will the learner get out of the video? What question are you trying to answer?)
    • Educational content
    • References (APA format)
    • Name and credentials of submitter(s)
    • Name and credentials of Subject Matter Expert
  • While microlearning sessions are not limited to policy-specific information, please use evidence-based practices, guidelines, and expert guidance as references.
  • Submissions are not limited to inpatient care areas. Submissions are welcomed from all care areas but are subject to approval from the members of the Professional Development Council.
  • All submissions requesting assistance, as indicated on the submission form, will be routed to the management of the Center for Professional Practice of Nursing (CPPN) for assignment to the correct personnel on a case-by-case basis.
  • Microlearning submission forms will be reviewed at least one (1) day before the Professional Development Council (PDC) meeting, which occurs on the second Monday of each month. Estimated turnaround time for a submission is no more than 30 business days.
  • Upon approval, the PDC will create a unique accessible to all URL and QR code and provide it to the person who created the microlearning session. Graphic standards suggest using QR code monkey to generate QR codes for best results.
  • Microlearning sessions will be stored in Office 365 (Stream, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint) and managed by CPPN and members of the PDC council.
  • Only UC Davis Health employees may access the microlearning sessions. They will need to log into Office 365 via the Central Authentication Service (CAS) using their Kerberos account.
  • Rovers do not support Office 365 applications, at this time. Microlearning sessions are accessible via the following:
    • Personal smart device (IOS or android) – Office 365 app or web browser version
    • UC Davis Health workstations – Web browser version
    • UC Davis Health unit-based tablets – Web browser version
  • On personal devices, the CAS sign-on can be bypassed after downloading the Microsoft Office 365 application and staying logged in to the app. After scanning a QR code with your personal device, the microlearning session will automatically show up in a new window.
  • Career Ladder points may be granted for planning and developing microlearning sessions.

Questions

If you have any questions about Microlearning, please contact the coordinators.
