Promoting Medication Safety 2.0

Medication errors are defined as any event that may cause or lead to an inappropriate medication use or patient harm. This program is intended to increase the awareness of medication errors by healthcare professionals and will focus on the medication administration process in eliminating medication errors. This class will acknowledge the resources available to promote healthcare provider wellbeing and improve psychological health. With a collaborative effort, the incidents that can lead to patient and staff harm will be reduced.

This is a blended learning course that consists of two parts. Part 1 consists of an online module, policy review, and medication administration tracer that will take approximately 3 hours to complete. Part 2 is the virtual session that is 4.33 hours in length. The total time commitment for this course is 7.33 hours.

This class is only open to UC Davis Health employees.

Part 1: Online Module and Prework

Before attending the virtual class session, participants must complete the online module, policy review, and medication administration tracer. The online module and prework is to be completed no more than 30 days prior to class.

Perform and document one Medication Administration Tracer (PDF) on the unit.

Part 2: Virtual Class Session

When the online module and prework is complete, participants will attend a virtual class session. Virtual class sessions will build upon content introduced during the prework. The online module and prework is required for C.E. credit and will be verified prior to the start of class. Participants must show proof of completion of the completed medication audit form and completed module. Participants may bring their UC Learning Center training transcript as evidence of module completion or show their training transcript using the SumTotal Mobile app.

Virtual Session Requirements

This course will be offered in a virtual environment. The class coordinator(s) will provide you access to the course meeting link one week prior to class.

Follow the virtual participation guidelines, including being on camera, engaging in activities, and attesting to participation.

Class Preparation

  • Ensure access to audio and microphone on desktop/laptop or Smart device (may use call-in option for audio/speaker).
  • Ensure access to a reliable wi-fi connection.

Accommodations for learners who need a quiet space, a laptop, and wi-fi can be provided. Contact the course coordinator(s) at least one week prior to class if accommodations are needed.

Continuing Education Contact Hours

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number CEP 26, for 7.0 contact hours.

The UC Davis Health Center for Professional Practice of Nursing is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Attendees will not receive C.E. credit if they are more than 20 minutes late; no partial credit can be awarded.

Registrations are approved after your deposit is received. Registration deposit is returned upon completion of class.

Cancellation must be requested five days before the class date to receive a deposit refund.

Parking is available in parking structure 4, lots 12, 17, 22, 22 Auxiliary, 30, 30 Auxiliary, Broadway, EDD, and DOJ with either a B permit or daily permit.
