Vascular Access Management

This course is designed for registered nurses who care for patients receiving advanced intravenous therapy. Content will address advanced vascular access management in alignment with the Infusion Nurses Society (INS) Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice. Topics include:

  • Indications for venous access.
  • Peripheral intravenous lines.
  • Tunneled and non-tunneled central venous access.
  • Nursing management of vascular access devices.
  • Prevention, identification, and troubleshooting of common complications.
  • Hands-on skills practice with selected venous access devices.

Class Attendance

Participants are expected to arrive on time and attend the entire course. Participants who arrive more than 20 minutes late will not be permitted to attend and will need to register for a future session. Partial attendance is not allowed, and no partial credit can be awarded.

Attire

Please wear hospital scrubs or casual attire suitable for hands-on skills practice. UC Davis Health employees should wear their badge; community participants will be provided with appropriate identification as needed.

Continuing Education Contact Hours

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number CEP 26, for 7 contact hours.

UC Davis Health - Center for Professional Practice of Nursing is accredited with distinction as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Attendees will not receive C.E. credit if they are more than 20 minutes late; no partial credit can be awarded.
