Course description

This course is designed to provide information for registered nurses who care for patients that are receiving advanced intravenous therapy. This course has two parts. The first consists of an online module and post-test. Module must be completed no more than 30 days prior to class and the certificate of completion or training transcript must be shown at registration to attend. Part two consists of in-person skills and hands-on activities. Topics related to advanced line therapy will be discussed inclusive of organizational policies and procedures, indications for venous access, peripheral intravenous lines as well as tunneled and non-tunneled venous access. Nursing management, preventing, and identifying common complications, troubleshooting problems, and providing hands-on experience with selected venous access devices will be included.

Prerequisites and preparation

*Module is to be completed no more than 30 days prior to class.

Participants must bring verification of completion to class. Participants may bring their UC Learning Center training transcript as proof or show their training transcript using the SumTotal Mobile app.

Class attendance

Be courteous and on time. Students are expected to attend and participate in the entire course. Participants will not be allowed to attend the session if they are more than 5 minutes late. Late participants and those without all prerequisites completed will not be allowed to attend the class and will not receive credit. They will need to register for an alternate available session as available.

C.E. contact hours

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number CEP 26, for 7.23 contact hours.

The UC Davis Health Center for Professional Practice of Nursing is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Attendees will not receive C.E. credit if they are more than 5 minutes late; no partial credit can be awarded.

$25 registration deposit. Registration deposit is returned upon completion of class. Cancellation must be requested five days prior to class date to receive deposit refund. Please register through UC Learning Center and call our office at 916-734-9790 with your deposit by credit card.

Registrations are approved only after your deposit is provided.

Community registrants

This class is only open to UC Davis Health employees.

Parking

Parking is available in parking structure 4, lots 12, 17, 22, 22 Auxiliary, 30, 30 Auxiliary, Broadway, EDD, and DOJ with either a B permit or daily permit.
