Annual events
An annual observance in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom focused on remembering important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. This Afrocentric celebration allows us the opportunity to share African American culture and achievements with the university community.
The Health, Education, and Leadership initiative serves to cultivate a diverse community focusing on:
- Awareness and prevention of health issues affecting the African American community.
- Professional and personal growth opportunities.
- Promotion of UC Davis' Principles of Community.
Our annual Holiday party and Membership drive is a time to fellowship with our co-workers of all faiths. This celebration is yet another reminder to continue to encourage, acknowledge each other, lift each other up, and to remember our blessings past and current.
The oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States; On June 19, 1865 the Union soldiers landed in Galveston Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. It is a day to remember and pass on to our children and community so that our history is never lost.
