Employee-only entrances at UC Davis Medical Center

(SACRAMENTO)

UC Davis Health will continue to limit entry to the medical center via the Pavilion’s front entrance to patients and visitors. The reasons are to help reduce bottlenecks, long lines and confusion for patients and visitors. The Pavilion entrance is not equipped with badge readers to allow employee access.

Currently, there are four employee-only entrances at the North, South, East and West sides of the medical center, including the University Tower entrance, which was designated as an employee-only entrance in December 2020. This was done to ensure that both patients and care providers alike could more quickly and efficiently enter the facility without encountering delays and bottlenecks.

The University Tower entance is steps away from the Pavilion entrance and is also closer to both employee parking and the employee shuttle stop. Additionally, the East Entrance is a 60-second walk from the Pavilion’s front entrance.

In order to streamline this process and provide comfort, ease and added layer of safety to these changes, UC Davis Health implemented the following changes for staff:

  • Shuttle service was reconfigured to stop at the University Tower to improve employee flow and convenience.
  • Between 5 p.m. and 9 a.m., “B” parking permit holders are allowed to park in parking structure 3 with easy access to the University Tower entrance.
  • East entrance hours were expanded to 24/7, effective July 2, 2021, to improve employee access.
  • The West, East and University Tower (South) entrances are now open 24/7, and each is close to staff parking.

Anyone entering the medical center who is not an employee must provide identification and secure a temporary name badge to be worn while in the facility. At this time, the visitor management system is centralized in the Pavilion lobby of the medical center, and it remains as a patient and visitor entrance to process and manage the flow of people most efficiently.

UC Davis Health has worked hard to establish patient and employee entrances that are convenient, safe and easy to navigate. Without these designated entrances, potential patient and visitor confusion and dissatisfaction would create bottlenecks and additional pressure for those seeking and providing needed care.

During emergency or urgent medical situations, medical staff need to merely inform security or guest relations staff about their particular circumstances. Upon doing so, they will immediately be waived through any entrance so they can quickly respond to their emergency.
