Going, going, gone – and coming: Old building comes down, makes way for new rehabilitation hospital

The last remnants of the long-abandoned building at 4875 Broadway (at 49th Street) came down on Tuesday, June 15, paving the way for a new chapter of patient care at UC Davis Health.

With demolition wrapping up, the site is prepped for breaking ground on the new UC Davis Rehabilitation Hospital, a 58,000-square-foot hospital that will double the current capacity to care for physical rehabilitation patients.

As the first freestanding rehab hospital in Sacramento County, the $60 million project is a joint venture between UC Davis Health and Kindred Healthcare, which operates rehabilitation hospitals across the country.

The new hospital, adjacent to the UC Davis Institute for Regenerative Cures and the planned Aggie Square site, will provide upwards of 200 clinical and supporting services jobs. It is expected to open in 2023.
