Indoor masking now required at all UC Davis Health locations

Due to continued increases in virus spread, masks are now required in all non-clinical areas that are part of UC Davis Health, starting immediately. (Masks were already required in all clinical areas.)  This now means masks are required in all indoor areas, due to the possibility of spread to patient care workers, even if a person has been vaccinated.

If a person is vaccinated, the only time a mask can be removed indoors is when that person is alone in an office or in a cubicle.  If a person is unvaccinated, they must wear a mask indoors at all times.  An unvaccinated person must also wear a mask outdoors if six feet of distancing cannot be maintained. This helpful grid outlines the specific COVID-19 health and safety requirements for UC Davis Health faculty and staff.

Additionally,  the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has issued a statewide order requiring twice weekly testing for unvaccinated health care workers, starting August 9.  The order also reinforces mask wearing indoors and has been backed by Sacramento County Public Health Officer Dr. Olivia Kasirye. CDPH says it issued the order because, “California is currently experiencing the fastest increase in COVID-19 cases during the entire pandemic with 11.2 new cases per 100,000 people per day, with case rates increasing fivefold within two months.”

Details of how and when this will be implemented at UC Davis Health are being determined now.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we strive to keep our community safe through the changing environment of the pandemic.
