Philosophy of Care

I am passionate about my patients. I always strive to approach your child’s healthcare needs holistically and to utilize the most up to date and evidence-based approaches to diagnosis and treatment. Making sure that my patients and their parents clearly understand the treatment plan is extremely important to me. Although teaching and educating are large and important parts of a clinic visit, I believe that quality care cannot be provided without demonstrating respect and active listening to my patients and their families!

Clinical Interests

Dr. Bassal is a general pediatric neurologist offering care for children with various neurologic conditions such as epilepsy, headache, neurodevelopmental disabilities and movement disorders. He has special clinical interest and expertise in the field of neuroimmunology, for which he cares for children affected by acquired demyelinating diseases including multiple sclerosis, in addition to autoantibody encephalitis including anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis.

Research/Academic Interests

In addition to patient care, Dr. Bassal has a passion for mentoring and teaching that extends to learners at all levels of training. He enjoys presenting formal lectures, leading clinical sessions, precepting resident and fellow clinic, and leading rounds during wards. From a research perspective, Dr. Bassal’s interests and publications include utilizing neuroimaging markers and techniques to better understand neurologic disease including neurodevelopmental disabilities, anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis and pediatric onset multiple sclerosis. He is especially interested in studying the impacts of health disparities on children with multiple sclerosis, with the ultimate goal of addressing the inequalities in order to improve healthcare.
