Established in 1966, our residency program at UC Davis School of Medicine has thrived under visionary leaders such as Dr. Julian R. Youmans. Overcoming early challenges, Dr. Youmans made significant contributions to the field, including authoring the seminal "Youmans’ Neurological Surgery" in 1973. Together with Dr. Glen W. Kindt, our founding faculty began providing neurosurgical care at the county hospital before launching our esteemed residency program in 1970. Today, our ACGME-approved program offers specialized fellowships and hosts an NIH-sponsored training initiative for residents. Our program's success mirrors that of UC Davis Medical Center, which has evolved from modest beginnings into a leading Level 1 Trauma Center renowned for its leading-edge facilities.
Our pride lies not only in the accomplishments of our graduates but also in their roles as leaders in academic medicine and the community. Many of our alumni are distinguished neurosurgeons, researchers, educators, and community advocates. We greatly value their ongoing involvement and contributions to our department's mission of excellence in neurosurgical education, research, and patient care. Serving a broad catchment area, we are committed to providing advanced resources and dedicated expertise to meet the neurosurgical needs of our community and beyond.
