When is the deadline for submission of applications?
The deadline for submission is August 1st of each year. -
Will you accept late submissions?
No, we are not able to accept late submissions. -
When does the application period open each year?
It opens the end of January each calendar year. -
Do all my documents have to be received by August 1st?
Yes, all documents must be received. -
What are the graduation recency requirements?
Must be a new graduate within the last 18 months prior to start of the program. -
Will you accept applicants who are not board certified?
All applicants must have taken and PASSED their national board certification exam prior to starting the fellowship. Preferred to have exam completion when applying. In the instance of PA’s graduating in the Fall and applying for the coming January fellowship program, they need to complete board exam at time of graduation to have certification to start the program in January. (PAs should have sat for certification by October each year). -
Do I need a California license to apply?
No, but you must have applied to the board for licensure prior to the August 1st deadline if you want to be selected. The BRN for the state of California takes 16-20 weeks to process applications and this can be an exclusion for employment if you do not have a California license by mid-October. You can proceed with the interview process without your California license, but we cannot hire you or credential you without a California License. -
What is the program timeline?
Applications close on August 1st of each year. Late applications are not accepted. Interviews will be scheduled for the first two weeks in August and applicants are notified of selection by the first week of September. We then begin the employment offer and credentialing stage. -
When are interviews held?
All fellowship interviews are virtual interviews and are held in the first 2 weeks of August. Fellowship candidate selection will be completed by early September if not sooner. -
How long does credentialing take?
It takes 8-12 weeks to complete the credentialing process so if you are hired in October, you should be approved by late December. -
When will I start work?
All fellows begin work on January 2nd of each year. -
How long does the fellowship last?
The fellowship is for one year, from January 2 through December 31 - Are there any off service experiences for the fellows?
Yes, we do offer off service experiences in other departments to create a broader learning experience. These include rotations on to other surgical services, rotations with radiology and monthly didactic focused on early career development skills. -
How many positions are available?
Each fellowship is guaranteed 1 fellowship position. Additional fellowship position may be made available based on department need. -
Have individuals who have completed the fellowship successfully been employed?
Yes, about 75% are hired into permanent employment at UC Davis Health. -
Is there a set structure to the program with various clinical rotations?
Yes, for all fellowships there is a set clinical schedule with rotations. -
