EBP Intensive and EBP Fellowship | Center for Nursing Science | UC Davis Health

EBP Intensive and EBP Fellowship

The Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) programs provide clinicians with the knowledge, skills, and support to transform everyday practice questions into evidence-based recommendations and sustainable practice change. Through a structured approach to evidence-based practice, participants learn to develop clinical questions, search and appraise the literature, synthesize the best available evidence, and apply findings to implementation and de-implementation initiatives.

Supported by an EBP Specialist, Clinical Nurse Scientists, Health System Librarians, and experienced EBP Mentors, participants receive practical guidance that extends beyond the classroom. Ongoing mentorship and follow-up opportunities help participants advance projects, evaluate outcomes, and collaborate with departmental leadership to integrate evidence into clinical practice.

What You’ll Learn

  • Differentiate evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and research
  • Develop a searchable clinical question that addresses a priority practice issue
  • Locate, critically appraise, and synthesize the best available evidence
  • Develop an evidence-based recommendation to guide practice change
  • Engage with EBP experts and mentors to support implementation planning, outcome measurement, and sustained practice change through ongoing follow-up

Practice Issues Well-Suited for EBP

  • Variation in clinical practice
  • Differences in care between units, departments, or shifts
  • Outdated or low-value practices
  • New or emerging technologies, evidence, or guidelines
  • Opportunities for implementation or de-implementation
  • Uncertainty or conflicting approaches to best practice
  • Practice concerns identified by frontline staff or leadership
  • Clinical and non-clinical topics seeking to identify or determine best practices

Our EBP programs offer two flexible pathways to support clinicians in advancing evidence-based practice. Whether through an intensive four-day experience or a year-long fellowship, participants receive structured education, expert mentorship, and ongoing support to translate evidence into practice and improve patient care.
