Second Year Complex Family Planning Fellow (Residency: University of Texas Southwestern)

Ciara Hutchison received her undergraduate degree at University of Virginia in Biology and Global Public Health. Before moving to Georgia for medical school, she lived in Mexico for a year working at a children's shelter where she has continued to visit and work throughout college, medical school, and residency. Ciara went to Emory in Atlanta, GA for medical school, where she was involved in gun violence prevention and voter access, which sparked her interest in community engagement and advocacy. She went to UT Southwestern for Ob/Gyn residency, where she was selected as an administrative chief resident and was involved in research on postplacental IUD placements in adolescents as well as medical student education about mechanical vacuum aspiration, abortion basics, and LARC. She is interested in trainee education and patient access in abortion-restricted states. Outside of work, she can be found making sourdough, running as many marathons as medical training allows, and visiting national parks. She is incredibly excited to be starting Complex Family Planning fellowship at UC Davis in 2025!

First Year Complex Family Planning Fellow (Residency: Harbor-UCLA Medical Center)

Margaret English received her undergraduate degree from UCLA in Human Biology with a minor in Spanish. As sports medicine staff, she won an NCAA national championship with the men’s water polo team and received a foreign language fellowship to study Kichwa. She earned her M.D. from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. Always with a passion for justice and advocacy, she was a member of the Primary Care Program, performed Forensic Medical Evaluations for asylum applicants, and designed her research on Jail Medicine educational practices. During residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, CA she was the Administrative Chief Resident and received numerous teaching and research awards including the Ryan Program Award for Excellence in Family Planning and the Outstanding Senior Resident Research Award for her project on racial and ethnic disparities in ectopic pregnancy management. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys exploring her new neighborhood, reading fantasy and science fiction, and exercising outdoors. She is excited to start Complex Family Planning fellowship at UC Davis in 2026!

First Year Complex Family Planning Fellow (Residency: Jersey Shore University Medical Center)

Michelle Xu earned her undergraduate degree in Healthcare Management and Policy from Georgetown University and a Master of Science in Epidemiology from Harvard University. She received her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, where she pursued her interests in public health and health equity through the Population Health Scholars Track, teaching sex ed at local high schools, and advocating with Hoyas for Choice to advance reproductive health education within a Catholic institution. During her residency at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, she received the Ryan Program Resident Award for Excellence in Family Planning, served as the New Jersey Legislative Junior Fellow with ACOG, and was Administrative Chief Resident. Her research interests include very early pregnancy abortion care, ultrasound findings of abnormal early pregnancy, and the impact of policy on access to contraception and abortion care. In her free time, she can be found reading with her cats, hiking, or visiting her sister in the Bay Area. As a California native, she is very excited to return to the state as a Complex Family Planning Fellow at UC Davis.
