I chose UC Blue & Gold for my care after I was hired as the UC Davis Health campus Fire Marshal three years ago – and I’ve never looked back. In my career, I’ve transitioned from the military to firefighting to law enforcement and now fire prevention. I’m familiar with what a well-oiled team looks like, and UC Davis Health care teams exemplify just that.
I’ve been grateful for my care experiences in both primary care and specialty care. About a year ago, I discovered a bump on my neck. With friends in fire service who’ve experienced unusual cancers throughout the years – and my time as an active firefighter – I was concerned. I made an appointment with my care team who listened to me without judgment and validated my concerns. An oncologist contacted me to thankfully share that the bump was a cyst and could be removed. I was scheduled for surgery, my first, at UC Davis Medical Center.
Before the procedure, my health care team walked us through the entire process and comforted my nervous family. When I came to in my recovery room, I did what I always do. I went to work inspecting and observing from my hospital bed. The experience opened my eyes. I saw gifted and genuine health care professionals who truly care about their patients and their outcomes. I wouldn’t change a thing.
Fun fact: My family and I enjoy traveling throughout the state, but also appreciate spending our downtime together at home.
