UC Davis employees and dependents get care sooner

UC Davis Health is proud to offer enhanced access to our world-class care for employees and their loved ones.

Through our Project FAST program, all UC Davis employees and their dependents who are UC Davis Health patients and in a UC Davis Health-sponsored HMO or PPO medical plan (excluding Kaiser) can receive higher-priority access to UC Davis Health care, such as:

    • Additional blocks of weekday, evening or weekend appointments
    • More text message offers for earlier appointments
    • Blocks of new-patient appointments in Davis reserved exclusively for UC Davis employees

Project FAST shortens appointment wait times for UC Davis employees by 8 days on average. And the greatest improvements occur in high-demand specialties like cardiology, dermatology, orthopedics and sports medicine – where employees experience significantly faster access to care.

The program applies to staff, faculty, trainees and retirees.

New options for same- and next-day care

UC Davis Health offers access to a complete system of world-class care, with a full range of convenient options to meet all your health needs. There’s primary care, specialty care, in-person and video Express Care, our emergency department, and a new emergency department alternative.

This includes two new ways to access care this year:

    • Our new Express Care In-Person Visits offer same-day or next-day service for common illnesses or injuries that can’t wait for an appointment with regular primary care doctor. They’re already available in Midtown Sacramento, with new locations soon.
    • Our new Immediate Advanced Care In-Person Visits, coming this fall, are designed to shorten your wait time for problems that need a higher level of care than Express Care, but not necessarily an ER visit or hospital stay.

As always, you can also use our on-demand video care service, Express Care Video Visits (also known as Telehealth Express Care), for same-day and after-hours care including evenings and weekends.

It’s crucial to support our care team members – who do so much to care for others – and to make sure the people who work here have access to the kinds of health expertise and innovation they can only receive at UC Davis Health.—Mark Rosenblatt, Vice Chancellor of Human Health Sciences at UC Davis Health
How to choose UC Davis Health

To choose us for your family’s everyday care, first select a health plan that includes UC Davis Health (we may also be listed as UC Davis Medical Group).

UC Davis Health/UC Davis Medical Group is available through all non-Kaiser plans. And it’s easy to switch from Kaiser.

  • UC Blue & Gold HMO (Health Net)
  • UC Care PPO (Blue Shield)
  • HealthSavings+ PPO (Blue Shield)
  • Retirees and Medicare recipients: please see resources like the UC Davis Human Resources retirees open enrollment page (recheck it as needed for updates), or your benefits materials

IMPORTANT NOTES:

1) For UC, maintaining UC Blue & Gold is a priority. UC will continue to offer the same medical plans for 2027, with no anticipated changes to carriers or plan administrators. Health Net will continue to administer UC Blue & Gold HMO through 2027, and UC will transition to a new administrator for the plan for 2028 and beyond.

2) Beginning January 2027, UC Davis will use the same systemwide UC Blue & Gold premiums as all other UC locations. Rates for represented employees are subject to collective bargaining agreements, many of which include monthly premium subsidies and/or caps on premium increases.

Employee medical plan costs for 2027 are available through the UC Davis Human Resources Open Enrollment website and its UC Davis Medical Plan Rates page. There are also helpful links to virtual and in-person Employee Benefits help desks, presentations, and the UC Davis Health Care Facilitator Program.

All employees should carefully review their individual rates, provider access and plan options! In particular, UC notes that it’s important to review your exact individual premium costs with the ALEX Benefits Tool or in your UCPath account, since your rates may differ from the published rates depending on your union representation and employee group. This especially applies to newly represented staff.

For benefits questions, please contact UC Davis Human Resources at benefits@ucdavis.edu.

If you are using a partner’s non-UC health insurance plan, you can also find UC Davis Health’s main list of accepted health plans here.
