Scott Bainbridge, CLS, MLS (ASCP) (Supervisor)

The Special Chemistry Laboratory is located at the Specialty Testing Center at 3740 Business Drive. (The Special Chemistry is sister department to the Toxicology Department; and shares staff members, Supervisor, and Director.) Special Chemistry (AKA Chem 2) performs a variety of routine immunoassays, some HPLC, and several manual tests. The testing utilizes a variety of methodologies and instruments and includes hormone assays, serum tumor markers, anemia assays, hepatitis tests, infectious disease and HIV antibody tests, hemoglobin A1c, serum free light chains, QuantiFERON, and sweat chloride testing. Many of these tests are run in scheduled batches only certain days of the week, so test result turn around times may be several days. The majority of testing is performed on serum, although some of the tests require EDTA plasma, EDTA whole blood, specific heparin collection tube sets, or special procedures such as for the sweat collection. Please refer to the online test menu at http://www.testmenu.com/ucdavis for specific tests and for details on sample types and collection directions.

The Special Chemistry section is staffed Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Toxicology is staffed 6-12:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday)
