General Code White Information

Code with definition

UC Davis Health Policy and Procedure, Section 1725

A serious hazardous material spill that is of a large volume or hazardous class that cannot be handled safely by a trained employee wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. In general, a spill of more than a liter of flammable solvent requires a call to 911.

What's the difference between a serious hazardous material spill and a small spill?
This is what will happen when you call 911 for a serious hazardous material spill:

A UC Davis dispatcher completes an incident report form which provides the necessary information to confirm a serious chemical spill. The dispatcher then notifies Sacramento Fire Department or an appropriate Hazardous Materials Team Emergency Responder. ("Code White" is NOT announced over the public address system.)

Appropriate administrative individuals are contacted for the Hospital, Campus or Primary Care Network.

The dispatcher follows up with telephone notification of "Code White All Clear" when ALL CLEAR is received from authorized personnel.
