I have been a long-time advocate of organ donation locally and nationally, participating in many public awareness and educational activities. I am incredibly fortunate and privileged to work with a dedicated group of individuals who consistently go above and beyond to provide the very best care for our patients.
When I am not practicing medicine, I enjoy spending time with my family. I also like hiking, biking and exploring the beautiful California coast.
Dr. Perez is a specialist in kidney transplantation and hemodialysis vascular access, and is a nationally recognized and respected surgeon and educator in the field of organ transplantation. He has also become a leader in performing transplant surgeries utilizing kidneys from very small pediatric donors, as well as living, unrelated, and deceased donors.
Dr. Perez's research is focused on the use of unconventional deceased donor kidneys and in the development of ex vivo normothermic perfusion preservation for assessment and repair of injured kidneys for transplantation. Because of his aggressive approach to both living and deceased donor transplantation, the Kidney Transplant Program at the UCD Medical Center has grown to be one of the largest in the country. Dr. Perez has also participated by invitation at a White House summit and other national forums on solving the growing organ shortage in America.
