Our pediatric critical care medicine physicians partner with medical and surgical specialists and specially trained nurses and respiratory therapists to make up the PICU/PCICU team. We care for patients with conditions including severe trauma, congenital heart disease, respiratory failure and severe infections.
Jennifer Plant is the chief of pediatric critical care and cares for critically ill pediatric patients with a variety of conditions including congenital heart disease and trauma. She graduated from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College and has a master’s degree in education from the University of Cincinnati.
Stephanie Mateev, M.D., is the medical director of the Pediatric Intensive and Cardiac Care Unit. She is a pediatric critical care physician, dedicated to providing care to children with a multitude of illnesses such as sepsis, respiratory failure, traumatic brain injury, congenital heart disease, post-operative care.
Virpal Donley, R.N., B.S.N., M.S.N., oversees the nursing staff for the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit / Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Unit and the Children’s Hospital Transport Team. Her team of nurses provide the around-the-clock care for infants, children and adolescents who experience traumatic injuries or life-threatening infectious diseases, or have undergone surgery and are recovering on the unit.
