Construction activity: Street parking along 50th Street will close April 23

The City of Sacramento requires roadway improvements along 50th Street as part of the Parking Structure 7 (PS7) construction project which will begin on March 31. As a result, parking along 50th Street will no longer be available starting Wednesday, April 23.

We understand the impact of removing these spaces and apologize for the inconvenience. We look forward to opening PS7 in September to support the continued growth of the Sacramento campus.

The construction work on 50th Street also aligns with UC Davis Health’s mission to promote sustainable transportation practices through the Green Commuter Program by:

  • adding a shuttle stop; and,
  • increasing bicycle safety by shifting the existing bike lanes to curbside, allowing more space between bicycles and cars.

The five-level parking structure directly adjacent to the MIND Institute and Kiwanis Family House will add 1,257 parking stalls with 64 electric vehicle charging stations for staff and a bicycle enclosure for green commuters.

Please note the following details:

  • The work will occur on both sides of 50th Street, from 50-100 feet north of the 50th Street/Broadway intersection to the intersection of 50th/49th Street.
  • The scope of work includes repairing and expanding the sidewalk for a new shuttle stop, installing new driveway aprons, and resurfacing and restriping 50th Street, which consists of a center turn lane and bicycle lanes on each side of the street.

The work will be completed in two phases:

  • Phase 1 – Sidewalk & Driveway Apron:
    • Work will begin Monday, March 31.
    • The Kiwanis Drive entrance will be restricted during daytime work hours and restored to a drivable condition at the end of each day.
    • The shoulder will close, and pedestrians will be rerouted.
    • Parking will be reduced along 50th Street, but some spots will remain.
  • Phase 2 – 50th Street Resurface & Restripe:
    • Work is scheduled to begin Wednesday, April 23.
    • During construction, 50th Street will remain open but will be reduced to a single-lane width with traffic control, cones, and signage.
    • Each side of 50th Street will be worked one at a time, while the reduced street width will still allow for two-way traffic, though narrower.
    • All shoulder parking will be eliminated on each side of the road.

The following alternative locations are available for staff parking (view UC Davis Health campus map) until the opening of PS7 scheduled in September:

  • Lots 16 and 30 (near Aggie Square)
  • Lots 22 and 22A (near MIND Institute)
  • EDD, DOJ and Broadway Building using UC Davis Health parking permits or the ParkMobile app
  • Aggie Square Parking Structure for UC Davis Health employees using the Honk app
  • Contractor’s Lot (near Institute for Regenerative Cures)
