Let’s be good neighbors: Help keep nearby streets clean and free of cigarette litter
Government and Community Relations continues to receive complaints from nearby neighbors on the Sacramento campus about cigarette butt litter in the area. We all share the responsibility of properly disposing of trash, especially non-biodegradable, toxic waste like cigarette butts. Butts should be placed in designated receptacles outside—never in surrounding neighborhoods or in campus trash bins.
As a public institution, UC Davis Health must demonstrate stewardship and respect. When litter is left behind, it creates the impression that we are not caring for the community we serve. We can and should improve in this area.
What you can do
Dispose of cigarettes correctly:
-
Use the designated cigarette receptacles (butt boxes) located on the south side or UC Davis Health side of V Street, on either side of the driveway leading to the east side of the main loading dock.
-
One of the receptacles is next to a fenced-in backflow, and the other is near the wayfinding sign that reads: UC Davis Health 4400, Path Building, Department of Pathology.
-
-
Smoke away from residential areas: Secondhand smoke is harmful to others, including our neighbors surrounding the hospital and satellite clinics.
-
Try a different option: UC Davis Health provides free nicotine lozenges for staff to help reduce the urge to smoke or vape outside. Employees can pick up two to four lozenges daily at designated distribution sites.
Why it matters
Our neighbors deserve clean, safe, and welcoming streets. By taking care of the environment around UC Davis Health, we build trust and reaffirm our commitment to the community.
Thank you for supporting UC Davis Health in being a considerate and respectful neighbor.
