Susan Murin, Interim DeanAs the Interim Dean of the UC Davis School of Medicine, Susan Murin, M.D., M.Sc., M.B.A., leads the school in its mission areas of education, research, clinical care, and community. During her 26-year tenure at the UC Davis School of Medicine, she has held numerous prominent leadership roles both within the medical school and at UC Davis Health, including Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs and Executive Vice Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine, and Chief of the Medical Staff at UC Davis Medical Center. Immediately prior to her appointment as School of Medicine Interim Dean, Dr. Murin served as Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs and Executive Director of the UC Davis Medical Group.

As a professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Dr. Murin is passionate about teaching at UC Davis and its academic affiliate, the Sacramento VA Hospital. As a former officer in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps, she is also dedicated to improving veterans' health. As part of this commitment, she created a successful weekly Pulmonary Nodules Clinic at the Sacramento VA hospital more than a decade ago, focusing on the diagnosis of early-stage lung cancers. Dr. Murin is widely recognized and respected as a dedicated teacher and mentor, and has been repeatedly named to Best Doctors lists regionally and nationally.

Dr. Murin oversees one of the nation’s top research, academic and medical training institutions, with more than 3,100 faculty and staff, 460 students, and 818 trainees in graduate medical education. She also oversees 25 departments and 15 centers. Among other honors, UC Davis School of Medicine ranks No. 3 in diversity, No. 7 in family medicine and No. 8 in primary care training in the 2023 U.S. News & World Report survey of America’s top medical schools. The school is also among the nation’s leaders in academic research with more than $368 million in research funding.
