Faculty Membership Criteria | UC Davis MIND Institute

The MIND Institute faculty consists of individuals at UC Davis who play a vital role in advancing the mission and programs of the MIND Institute. These faculty members contribute to the Institute through their research, teaching, and clinical service. They come from UC Davis Health and the University of California, Davis campuses, encompassing a diverse range of backgrounds and expertise. The faculty includes both research scientists and clinicians, ensuring a well-rounded and comprehensive approach to our work.

MIND Institute Faculty membership is based on meeting one or more of the following criteria:

• Recruitment to the MIND Institute. If not recruited to the MIND Institute.
• A consistent history of peer-reviewed extramural funding in neurodevelopmental disabilities research, preferably as principal investigator, but at least as named co-investigator.
• A consistent history of peer-reviewed neurodevelopmental disabilities research publications.
• A consistent history of the design and implementation of neurodevelopmental disabilities clinical protocols and the accrual of a reasonable number of patients to these protocols.
• Acknowledged expertise in the field of neurodevelopmental disabilities within the MIND Institute community, as exemplified by any of the following:
• Excellence in the clinical evaluation and management of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families
• A substantial role in the education of trainees who are future researchers and/or clinicians in the field of neurodevelopmental disabilities.

Application Process

If you're interested in becoming a part of the MIND Institute faculty, please follow these steps to apply:

1. Write a letter expressing your interest to Marjorie Solomon, Ph.D. who is the Chair of the Membership Committee. In the letter, explain how you meet the requirements for faculty membership.
2. Include a detailed curriculum vitae (CV) with your application. This document should outline your education, work experience, research, and any relevant accomplishments.
3. Request two letters of recommendation from current MIND Institute faculty members. These letters should specifically address how you fulfill the criteria for faculty membership.
4. Write a DEI statement that describes how you currently integrate DEI into your lab/team, research, clinical, teaching and/or outreach activities and what your future plans are for DEI activities for yourself and/or lab/team. Typically these statements are 1-page or less.

By following these guidelines and submitting the required documents, you can apply for a faculty position at the MIND Institute.

Review Process

New faculty applications will be carefully reviewed by the Membership Committee. They will then make a recommendation to the Executive Committee, who will conduct a final review. The Chair of the Membership Committee will inform the applicant about the decision made by the Executive Committee. If appointed, faculty members will serve for a period of three years.

Every three years, faculty members will undergo a review by the Membership Committee. This review will evaluate their ongoing eligibility as faculty based on the criteria mentioned earlier. The Membership Committee will then provide a recommendation to the Executive Committee for final review. The Chair of the Membership Committee will communicate the status of the faculty appointment to the faculty member.

It's important to note that the term "faculty" is used in a broader sense in this context. It includes individuals in various roles, such as those in the Professional Research Series and Staff Psychologists, as long as they meet the membership criteria.
