Busola Adesina, M.D.

Dr. Adesina received her undergraduate degree in Chemistry before going to medical school in Midwest. Before medical school, she worked for a few years on infectious disease research. She returned to California for her neurology training to be closer to her friends and family.  Since living in Sacramento, she has enjoyed many visits to Gunther's Ice Cream to beat the sweltering summer heat. She is a member of UCD Black Residents' Organization, a valued source of community and support.

Alex Carlin, D.O.

Dr. Carlin grew up in the East Bay Area and attended UC Davis as an undergraduate, where he earned a BA in Philosophy. He studied medicine at Western University of Health Sciences, COMP, where he became interested in neuroscience. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship at UC Davis before continuing on to his Neurology residency. In his free time he enjoys travel, music, and spending time with family and friends. Shaan Ludder, D.O.

Dr. Ludder grew up one hour South of Sacramento in Modesto, California. He attended UC Berkeley for his undergraduate degree, where he obtained a BA in Integrative Biology. He then proceeded to attend Touro University for his medical degree. His internship was completed here at UCD before continuing on to his Neurology residency. He has a strong interest in Vascular Neurology and will be entering a Stroke Neurology fellowship next year at UC San Diego. Leslie Markun, M.D., (Chief Resident)

A California native, Dr. Markun earned her BA and MSc from Johns Hopkins University. She developed an interest in neurology and began her research career under the guidance of Dr. Ostrem at University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Markun earned her MD from Central Michigan University and most recently completed her Internal Medicine Internship at UC Davis. Miguel Ruvalcaba, M.D., (Chief Resident)

Miguel grew in Fresno, CA and is a proud graduate of the second class of the newest University of California, UC Merced. He developed an interest in neurology while in undergrad which continued into UC Davis Medical School. He graduated from UCD and enjoyed his neurology experience there so much, he was eager to stay and continue with the UC Davis Neurology Residency. Beatrice Akers, D.O.

Dr. Akers was born and raised in Davis, California.  She attended the University of California, Berkeley, where she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Physiology and Metabolism.  After working at a community health clinic in Oakland, California, she attended Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo, California.  As a medical student there she was recognized as the Student Doctor of the Year, and was selected as a pre-doctoral Teaching Fellow in the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine.  Through her Fellowship, she completed an additional year of hands-on training in Osteopathic manipulative treatment.   Her interests in Neurology include headache and pain, with a strong interest in osteopathic manipulative treatment as an added tool to address these disorders.  Outside of medicine, she enjoys gardening, fermenting foods and spending time with her family.  She is fluent in English and Spanish.  She may be contacted at bakers@ucdavis.edu

Christopher Campos, D.O.

Dr. Campos was born and raised near the ocean in South Florida where he spent his summers teaching children how to swim. He became interested in medicine after realizing the importance of public health and disease prevention during his college years at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. He then earned a BS in Biomedical Sciences while running the university's aquatics department at the Recreation and Wellness Center. He attended medical school at Rocky Vista University in Colorado but set his sights on Sacramento to be close to both the mountains and the ocean. He decided to enter Neurology early in his 3rd year while seeing patients with Parkinson's Disease on his Neurology rotation. Michael Chang, D.O.

Born and raised in Long Island, New York, Dr. Chang received his B.S. in Accounting at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. After a year of working as a patient advocate through the AmeriCorps program in North Philadelphia, he returned to Long Island to attend the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he received his D.O. degree. During medical school, he discovered his passion for the neurosciences and decided that he wanted to begin his neurology training in California. His current area of interest include epilepsy. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, watching basketball, and playing board games.

Manveer Dilts-Garcha, M.D.

Dr. Dilts-Garcha is a resident physician in the Department of Neurology at UC Davis Medical Center. He graduated from the USF Morsani School of Medicine SELECT leadership program and before that completed an undergraduate degree in Biology and a Master’s in Stem Cell Research at California State University Sacramento. He is passionate about advancing the future of science and medicine, both through academic endeavors as well as through policy. His accomplishments include research in the field of regenerative medicine, publications in biophotonics, awards for healthcare quality improvement and ongoing engagement at the legislative level to reform health policy and improve resident well being. Originally from Canada and the son of immigrant parents who fled religious persecution in their native India, Dr. Dilts-Garcha is acutely sensitive to the struggles of underserved communities, and disadvantaged groups and is a strong proponent of universal healthcare for all Americans. In his spare time he enjoys wood working, powerlifting, cooking, photography and spending time with his family.

Meghan Branston, D.O.

Dr. Meg Branston is originally from the East coast and grew up in New Jersey. She first became interested in the neuroscience when she worked in an undergraduate lab studying viral-mediated therapies for glioblastoma multiforme at UNC Wilmington. She received her BS in Biology and minored in Chemistry. She studied medical school at Campbell University SOM where she further developed in an interest in Neurology. She loves working/studying in California.  Dr. Branston is currently interested in pursuing a career in either sport’s neurology or neuromuscular. As a lifelong goal, she hopes to one day reside and practice neurology in New Zealand. Her interests outside of residency include exercising (Olympic weightlifting, HIIT, running, road biking), hiking, traveling, and spending time with her husband, friends, and two doggies (Jax and Dobby). She may be contacted at mkrowicki@ucdavis.edu

Hemali Patel, D.O.

Dr. Hemali Patel was born in England, UK, where she spent the greater part of her life. She and her family emigrated in 2007 to Florida, where she obtained degrees in Neuroscience & Behavior, and Psychology. For medical school, she attended Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. At this (very early!) point in her neurology career, she has interests in Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology. Her dream career includes teaching a medical school neurology course as well as residents. Heros Amerkhanian, D.O., M.P.H.

Dr. Amerkhanian joins us from Glendale, Calif. and received his medical degree from Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also received his Master of Public Health degree from the University of Southern California, and his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of California, Irvine. Heros is looking forward to learning the diagnostic and therapeutic skills essential to the field of neurology, and how to combine them with empathy to provide the best patient care possible. In his spare time, Heros enjoys reading (especially about nature, history and science fiction), playing board and video games, hiking and spending time with family and friends.

Nima Beheshti, D.O., M.P.H.

Dr. Behesti joins us from Colorado and received his medical degree from Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also received his Master of Public Health degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Bachelor of Science degree in biology and Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of California, Irvine. Nima is looking forward to learning about the many different aspects of neurology, and cutting-edge techniques and protocols to best help his patients. In his spare time, Nima enjoys playing board games and working on arts and crafts projects with his wife, including woodburning, leatherworking and Japanese ink painting.

Todd Chatlos, M.D.

Dr. Chatlos joins us from Virginia and received his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. He also received his Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Virginia. Todd is looking forward to helping patients with a wide variety of neurologic diseases, while learning about the disease processes that are causing their symptoms and the therapies that can help them. He’s especially interested in neurophysiology and neuroimmunology. In his spare time, Todd enjoys seeing concerts, traveling, hiking, playing piano & singing, and exploring local restaurants, breweries and wineries.

Abhinav Katti, D.O.

Dr. Katti joins us from Michigan and received his medical degree from Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also attended graduate school in basic medical science at Wayne State University and received his Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience from the University of Michigan. Abhinav is looking forward to working with a diverse patient population and learning from experts in a variety of neurological subspecialties. He’s especially interested in neurocritical care and dementia. In his spare time, Abhinav enjoys hanging out with his wife and two dogs, playing basketball, football, soccer, tennis, and golf, and watching sports – especially the Michigan Wolverines.

Carla Wood, D.O., M.S.

Dr. Wood joins us from Lakewood, Calif. and received her medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine at Seton Hill University. She also received her Master of Science degree in medical neuroscience from the Charite University of Medicine and her Bachelor of Arts degree in molecular and cell biology from the University of California, Berkeley. Carla is looking forward to learning from experts in a variety of neurological subspecialties and working with a diverse patient population. In her spare time, Carla enjoys snowboarding, surfing, hiking, yoga, water color painting and gardening.

Christopher Zimmerman, D.O. 

Dr. Zimmermann joins us from Novato, CA and received his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also took pre-med classes at Mills College and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from St. John’s College. Christopher is looking forward to meeting and working with new colleagues and mentors, getting excellent training and expanding his skills to become a great neurologist. In his spare time, Christopher enjoys cooking, playing the piano, dabbling in software development and reading science fiction/fantasy books.

Navneet Bassi, D.O.

Dr. Bassi joins us from Davis, Calif. and received his medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. He also received his Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from UC Davis. Navneet is looking forward to growing into a well-rounded physician while building long lasting relationships with colleagues and patients. In his spare time, Navneet enjoys cooking, photography, hiking, dancing and exercising. He’s also an avid supporter of Manchester United Soccer Club and indulges in his soccer addiction by watching their games and playing soccer. 

Timothy Cuyegkeng, D.O.   

Dr. Cuyegkeng joins us from South Pasadena, CA and received his medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. He also received his Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences from the University of California, Irvine. Timothy is looking forward to learning from the amazing faculty at UC Davis and exploring the subspecialties within the department. In his spare time, Timothy enjoys traveling, sports (he’s a Lakers fan), playing video games and spending time with family and friends. 

Maria Florendo, M.D.     

Dr. Florendo joins us from Michigan and received her medical degree from Central Michigan University College of Medicine. She also received her Bachelor of Science degrees in biology (physiology and neuroscience) and cognitive science from University of California, San Diego. Maria is looking forward to exploring the different subspecialties in neurology and learning from our wonderful faculty. She’s also excited to be training in an area comprised of a diverse population and hopes to serve this group as an attending physician. In her spare time, Maria enjoys doing puzzles, embroidery, Zumba, gardening and karaoke (she grew up singing in choir and doing musical theater). 

Nhayoung Hwang, M.D. 

Dr. Hwang joins us from Davis, Calif. and received her medical degree from the UC Davis School of Medicine. She also received her Bachelor of Arts degree in molecular and cell biology with an immunology emphasis from University of California, Berkeley. Nhayoung is looking forward to learning about the different fields within neurology, and is excited about the department’s growing presence in the School of Medicine because medical student education is one of her passions. In her spare time, Nhayoung enjoys hiking, kickboxing, playing board games, baking and playing the piano. 

Kevin Littleton, M.D. 

Dr. Littleton joins us from Florida and received his medical degree from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. He also received his Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology and cell science from the University of Florida. Kevin is looking forward to learning more about the management and workup of neurological diseases, as well as their treatments and patient care. In his spare time, Kevin enjoys music, especially producing electronic music, playing electric/acoustic guitar and collecting vinyl records. He also likes to stay active and go to the gym. 

George Savvides, M.D.

Dr. Savvides joins us from Kansas and received his medical degree from University of Kansas School of Medicine. He also received his Bachelor of Science degree in physics from University of Kansas. George is looking forward to getting excellent training and expanding his skills to become a competent and empathetic neurologist, and delving into the world of neurological/neuroscience research. In his spare time, George enjoys wood working and board games, and he’s also interested in health, longevity and fasting.
