Pediatric Infusion Center
There are many wonderful nurses at the Pediatric Cancer Center, but Shawna sticks out in my mind for many reasons. Her cheerfulness and warmth is both inspiring and uplifting. Shawna embodies a confident and kindness that is exception for the ease in her presentation and the high degree of genuine sincerity. She strikes me as someone who wears her heart on her sleeve but mixed with grace and professionalism--a unicorn of sorts. This unique talent allows her a degree of compassion and understanding that resonates in a time when healthcare workers are cloaked in an armor of PPE. Her ability to exhibit a joyfulness and playfulness during a very challenging time in parents and children's lives is reassuring and refreshing. As a nurse myself, Shawna reminds me why I went into healthcare and more importantly, she reminds me to stay present in the moment, to focus on the why we all were brought together at the pediatric infusion center--to care for the patient, my child, and one another.
