J Street Pulmonary Clinic

Tracy Seward, RN Nurse Practice Manager of the Pulmonary Clinic has exhibited exceptional leadership during a time of extraordinary circumstances which affected her staff, patients, and operations of the clinic. The Pulmonary clinic on J Street building was shut down on 09/10/2021, due to a faulty fire pump. Without a fire pump, the building could not suppress fire with a sprinkler system. he entire clinic operation had to be relocated to the Point West clinic in a single day. This included contacting all scheduled patients to notify of new location; transporting medications, biopharmaceuticals, medication refrigerator, and temperature monitoring system to the new location; transporting and coordinating the delivery of oxygen racks and tanks to the new location; moving medical equipment and supplies to the new location; and relocating staff workstations and telephone numbers. New documentation was quickly developed to identify the location of services. Pulmonary Rehabilitation was pivoted to virtual visits and equipment was relocated in the days to follow. Tracy led this transition to the new location, communicated with IT, real-estate teams, disaster preparedness teams, staff, physicians, and other stakeholders. She took charge of the situation and was decisive in the transition to Point West. On October 6th, Point West was closed when the T-bar ceiling collapsed. This meant the Pulmonary clinic was relocated once again. They moved the staff, equipment and medications to Midtown Health Aging Clinic. Once again, Tracy demonstrated extraordinary leadership in this transition. Amidst coordination of this move, a fatal vehicle crash occurred on the freeway adjacent to the Point West Clinic. Tracy and the construction crew immediately ran to the scene to aid the victims until emergency services arrived. Pulmonology has now returned to their J Street home. The moves were stressful to staff, physicians, and patients as they felt displaced. Tracy demonstrated exceptional communication, guidance, strategic planning, and emotional support during these extraordinary circumstances. Tracy has promoted the nursing profession and exhibited exceptional nursing leadership in her 11 years of leadership with UC Davis Health.
