Cardiothoracic Surgery
I am writing to highly recommend Jeff Kasten for the DAISY Award at UC Davis Health. Jeff has been a nurse practitioner at UC Davis Health for the past five years, and in that time, he has become an invaluable member of the healthcare team.
As a nurse practitioner, Jeff has consistently demonstrated exceptional patient care, professionalism, and dedication. He has a remarkable ability to connect with patients and put them at ease, even in the most challenging of circumstances. He always takes the time to listen to his patients and understand their needs, and he goes above and beyond to ensure that they receive the best possible care.
In addition to his clinical skills, Jeff is also a compassionate and caring individual. He is always willing to lend a hand to his colleagues and to support his patients, and he has a deep commitment to improving the health of the communities he serves. He is a true advocate for his patients, and he never hesitates to speak out on their behalf.
His advocacy for patient care was unbelievably demonstrated when he took the time in counselling a patient who was extremely depressed post-operatively after a complex aortic surgery for aortic dissection. He counselled the patient daily when he was in the intensive care unit when the patient was not willing to participate in his physical therapy and adequate nutritional intake. He established such an amazing rapport with the patient that it was because of Jeff’s persistence in psychologically strengthening him that convinced the patient will to recover and live. It was because of Jeff that the patient managed to be transferred from the ICU to the East 6 cardiothoracic unit. While on the East 6 unit he continued to coach the patient making sure the patient understands the importance with compliance of his medications. Jeff’s unbelievable patient care and advocacy, enabled the patient to be discharged from the hospital. Jeff's contributions to UC Davis Health have not gone unnoticed. He has received numerous letters of appreciation from patients and their families, specifically from patients who underwent robotic-assisted procedures, a subspecialized procedure that requires dedicated team members such as Jeff. He has been recognized by his colleagues for his exceptional work. He is truly a deserving recipient of the Daisy Award.
I wholeheartedly endorse Jeff for the DAISY Award and I am confident that he will continue to make a positive impact on the lives of the patients and colleagues at UC Davis Health.
