My cousin's grandson, was airlifted from Fairchild Medical Center, in Yreka in September due to an undiagnosed critical medical condition that ended up being a ruptured appendix. He currently is on Davis 7 Pediatrics Floor at UC Davis Medical Center after spending a month bouncing back and forth from multiple surgeries, ICU and Davis 7. His primary nurse Jenn Sutherland RN has been amazing and has gone above and beyond. Per his parents, Jenn's communication skills are exceptional. "She sits down patiently to be sure we understand what is going on, all about his care from his procedures, medications to his IVs/TPNs so we are not in the dark." Jenn goes out of her way to make sure he is comfortable and happy. She even plays with him to help build a therapeutic relationship and bond. Jenn does all this while she has been teaching a student nurse by her side. Two examples of going above and beyond worthy of a DAISY Award, Jenn looked for him after returning from a vacation. When Jenn found out he was in ICU, she went up to the ICU and spent her lunch hour with his parents and him to catch up with them. In addition, his parents have shared that Jenn has stopped by on her day off to visit. Per his parents, "we think for Jenn... this is not a job; it is really a passion, and we know Jenn truly cares for her patients and families."

Jenn is an exceptional nurse. She went above and beyond to meet the needs of my daughter and I! Our shower was broken, so she arranged for both of us to be able to shower in an empty care room. You have no idea how amazing that was after spending two nights here and facing more. Additionally, she explained and provided us with a meal voucher so my daughter could enjoy a meal. She has been so kind, caring and receptive. My daughter has received excellent care since being admitted, but Jenn is a ball of sunshine which is really needed after days of feeling awful. Thanks so much Jenn for your amazing care of us...it really is appreciated.
