DAISY Award
Congratulations to Angela Zhang
Angela Zhang, RN, BSN, CCRN
Electrophysiology Lab
First nomination:
Angela Zhang has been at UC Davis as a registered nurse for over twenty years now, and she has been an asset to the EP lab. I am very honored to be working with her, and I am sure my colleagues will agree. She demonstrates an exceptional level of skills, knowledge, and a positive attitude toward her profession. She is hardworking, dedicated, and most of all compassionate to patients and their family.
One incident I remember that Angela had proven herself was when we were in a case with a critical patient having a subcutaneous implantable cardiac defibrillator and the patient had a cardiac arrest on the table. She remained calm and kept her composure even under a lot of pressure and stress. She was able to direct the team in an organized manner and mobilize the staff accordingly without being baffled. Her quick response and critical thinking skills worked efficiently toward leading the team in saving the life of a patient. However, despite all efforts, we were not able to preserve the life of the patient but she maintained her positive attitude and commended every one of their hard work. After the stressful situation, she prepared the patient for the family and comforted them even though there were still tasks waiting to be completed. She placed the patient and the family first before anything else. Also though we both have not taken a break, and it's getting close to going home, and there are multiple tasks as far as completion of documentation she chose to be with the family and comforted them.
Nursing is all about compassion and empathy. The ability to make a difference, influence others, and doing beyond expectations is an example of a real hero and dedication to the profession, and I see all of these in Angela. She deserves the applause and recognition
Second nomination:
Angela is an EP Nurse that I would entrust the care of my loved ones and if I happen to be a
patient myself. She embodies the exceptional nursing practice of sharing her experiences with patients and their families with the highest level of her competence. She does not only help ease the anxiety of the patient with her calm demeanor but intimately share her personal experience about the procedure as they are faced with the reality of the challenges. She does not only function well within a chaotic and stressed situation, but also upholds excellent nursing practice. She once was able to calm down and redirect the focus of a frustrated and indignant healthcare provider by simply and calmly reassuring that she is not alone as the team Is with her all the way to provide the best patient care. She is duly
admired by peers and is regarded as such. She has very strong personal and professional characteristics, knowledge base, patient centeredness, advocacy, critical thinking, and commendable practice of nursing. She is an embodiment of an angel that stands out above the rest as being exemplary, surpassing all others.
About the DAISY Award
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses recognizes outstanding members of the nursing community and the very special work they do every day. It was established by the DAISY Foundation in memory of the extraordinary nursing J. Patrick Barnes received when he was hospitalized. (DAISY is an acronym for diseases attacking the immune system.) This nursing recognition award program offers patients, families, and professional colleagues a way to honor nurses for all they do. The DAISY awardees consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care.
