The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists supports the use of acetaminophen (Tylenol) in pregnancy when it’s taken as needed, in moderation (smaller amounts), and after talking with a doctor.
Acetaminophen has long been established as a safe medicine to help reduce pain and fever during pregnancy. It is one of the only options for treating several conditions in pregnant patients. This is because medicines such as NSAIDs (like aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen) are proven by science to be unsafe during pregnancy.
If you are unsure whether acetaminophen is right and safe for the problem you want to treat, please ask your doctor or ob-gyn provider.
