Wellness for trainees is an institutional priority. Fellows receive two half-days off each year for preventive health appointments. The Office of Graduate Medical Education offers wellness support through workshops, facilitated group discussions, and referral to resources throughout UC Davis. Fellows can also access free and confidential counseling and psychiatric services through the Academic and Staff Assistance Program (ASAP).
Professional liability insurance is provided by the Regents of the University of California. Fellow benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; life, accidental death and dismemberment, and disability insurance; and parental leave. Fellows receive annual vacation leave (20 working days per year) plus protected time for conferences and fellowship-specific educational workshops. Fellows also receive funding from the department and from Graduate Medical Education for professional and educational expenses. Salaries are set at the levels of PGY-5 (first year fellow), PGY-6 (second year fellow), and PGY-7 (third year fellow). Compensation and benefits are established annually and are subject to collective bargaining.
