Green Commuter Program
The Green Commuter Program at UC Davis Health promotes sustainable transportation practices that not only protect air quality in our community–but are also good for your health! By encouraging the use of alternative transportation options, the program works to reduce the cost and stress of an employee’s commute, relieve campus congestion, and ease parking demand.
Becoming a member says you are committed to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution through walking, biking, taking public transit, carpooling, or vanpooling to work or school at least three times a week.
Find a greener commute!
Registration into the Green Commuter Program depends on your commute mode. View the options below to learn more about each mode.
Employees and students who live within one mile of the Medical Center may choose to walk for their daily commutes. Choosing an active commute method like walking provides benefits such as incorporating exercise into everyday life, increased productivity, and reduced stress levels.
If you are interested in registering for the Green Commuter Program by walking, please stop by the Parking Office or email hs-GreenCommuterProgram@ucdavis.edu.
Riding your bike is a great way to enjoy exercise and fresh air on your way to work! Employees and students at UC Davis Health who ride a bicycle or scooter to work/school may be eligible for the Green Commuter Program.
Learn how to register your bike or scooter through Bike Index, and how to qualify for the Green Commuter Program by biking.
Sit back and relax while someone else does the driving, all while saving money on your commute. UC Davis Medical Center is conveniently located near four bus routes and the Gold Line Light Rail. Employees and students at UC Davis Health may be eligible for up to $100 in monthly subsidies on transit passes!

Not sure if regional transit will work for you? Please reach out to hs-GreenCommuterProgram@ucdavis.edu for assistance in planning your transit route!
A carpool consists of two or more UC Davis Health employees commuting together in the same vehicle from a similar location. This allows commuters to save money by sharing the expense of driving. Carpooling allows access to HOV lanes on most major highways which can also save time on your commute.
Carpool Permits
To purchase a carpool permit, all members of the carpool group will need to come into the parking office together to register.
Carpool Permit | Monthly Cost per person |
2-Person | $27.55 |
3-Person | $16.43 |
4-Person | $10.88 |
5-Person | $7.54 |
For many carpoolers, it may be cheaper to share the cost of daily parking through the ParkMobile app ($2.32 per day). However, daily parking would not qualify you for the Green Commuter Program.
Find a Carpool Buddy
If you are interested in joining a carpool, but do not know of anyone making your commute please complete Carpool Interest Form. We will reach out to employees in your neighborhood to see if your work schedules align.
If you carpool with someone who works nearby but is not a UC Davis Health employee or student, you may qualify for the Green Commuter Program if you get dropped off. If you are interested in registering for the Green Commuter Program as a drop-off, please stop by the Parking Office or email hs-GreenCommuterProgram@ucdavis.edu.
What is a Vanpool?
A vanpool is a large carpool, consisting of five or more employees commuting together in the same vehicle from a similar location.
Vanpools are coordinated through our partners at Commute with Enterprise, where the vanpool members share a recent-model van or SUV from Enterprise. Not only will you save money on gas, but you will put less miles and wear-and-tear on your vehicle!
Cost of a Vanpool
The cost of a vanpool varies depending on the number of miles traveled and the number of passengers. Each vanpool passenger can receive a subsidy of up to $100 per month to offset the monthly leased cost.
Vanpool vehicles may be granted a reserved parking space or park in any B-permit zone, depending on the location and availability.
Commute with Enterprise
The Green Commuter Program partners with Commute with Enterprise for vanpool creation and management. If you are interested in joining a vanpool, please visit commutewithenterprise.com and select "Join Commute" to get started.
