Our transfusion services are accredited by the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB) and support UC Davis' highly complex patient care needs as the only level 1 trauma center for both adult and pediatric emergencies in inland Northern California, as an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, and as nationally ranked programs in surgery, pediatrics and adult medicine.

The transfusion services laboratory provides a wide variety of in-house testing services which includes blood typing, red blood cell antibody screen with reflex to antibody identification, red blood cell phenotyping, antibody titer, elution, direct antiglobulin test (DAT), cord blood test, fetal maternal hemorrhage test, sickle cell testing and recipient and donor blood crossmatch compatibility testing. Consultations are available from our transfusion medicine faculty.

Sources of Blood

Our hospital receives blood and blood components from the American Red Cross (ARC). Refer to ARC website, for information on donating blood.

Regulatory and Accreditation

We are regulated by FDA, AABB, CAP, CDPH and the Joint Commission. We are accredited by AABB and CAP.
