The Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) Fellowship at UC Davis Children’s Hospital is a two-year ACGME-accredited program structured around 4-week block rotations in clinical care, individualized curriculum, and scholarly work. Fellows train across both an academic tertiary care children’s hospital (UC Davis Children’s Hospital) and a community hospital partner site (Adventist Health Lodi Memorial), allowing for comprehensive exposure to the full spectrum of pediatric hospital medicine.
Core rotations include pediatric wards, procedural sedation, PICU, NICU, and palliative care. Fellows also complete structured experiences in quality improvement, advocacy, and medical education, and are supported in the completion of a scholarly project that fulfills ABP requirements. The program emphasizes flexibility, mentorship, and career alignment, with significant elective time in each year.
Fellows also rotate at Adventist Health Lodi Memorial, a community hospital and long-standing UC Davis clinical affiliate. There, fellows gain experience managing well newborns, Level II neonates, emergency department consults, and general pediatric inpatients in a lower-resource setting—developing autonomy, adaptability, and an appreciation for regionalized systems of care.
Elective Clinical Experiences include (but not limited to):
The UC Davis Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship prepares graduates for diverse career paths in academic and community hospital medicine. Fellows receive training in clinical care, teaching, quality improvement, and research in a supportive, collaborative environment.
