Dispensing Quality and Excellence

The Department of Pharmacy Services is responsible for the procurement, control and distribution of medications throughout UC Davis Health. It also guides, monitors and assures the quality of medication use under the auspices of the UC Davis Medical Center Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

Specifically, the Department of Pharmacy Services performs the following functions:

  • Maintains an adequate medication supply
  • Prepares, labels and dispenses medications, chemicals and parenteral solutions
  • Participates in orientation and in-service education programs
  • Provides patient and family education
  • Reviews and evaluates medication orders and prescriptions for appropriateness
  • Monitors drug therapy
  • Provides physician drug information
  • Supervises all drug storage and preparation areas within the pharmacy and throughout the hospital, clinics and UC Davis Medical Group
  • Provides professional educational training for Pharm.D. students and postgraduate Pharmacy Residents
  • Pursuant to protocols developed with medical staff, manages patient’s drug therapy.
