Information for referring physicians and patients seeking mental health services from UC Davis Health.
For Patients
New Patient Appointments
Mental health services require a referral from your primary care doctor. Please reach out to your primary care provider to request one. Once the referral is in place, call our main clinic line for help finding a care provider or scheduling your first appointment.
Returning Patient Appointments
To schedule your next appointment, call our main clinic line or contact the clinic where you have been receiving services.

First Appointments
What should I expect at my first appointment?
- Your first visit will be approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
- A provider will meet with you to collect your complete medical and mental health history and discuss your concerns.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring the following items along to your appointment:
- Insurance card and/or eligibility information
- List of current medications
- A method of payment for your insurance co-payment, if applicable
- Any updates to your address, employment, or insurance coverage, if applicable
Telepsychiatry video visits
How do I schedule video visits with my mental health care provider?
If your UC Davis Health provider determines that telehealth visits are appropriate for you, your visit can be scheduled through the MyUCDavisHealth portal.
For Referring Physicians
To refer a patient to us, please submit an Electronic Referral Intake Form.
If you have questions, our office is staffed with referral specialists to help you get your patient to the appropriate UC Davis mental health provider and services.
