Resident Evaluation
Residents are provided regularly scheduled written feedback from faculty using a web-based electronic evaluation system. Residents also provide confidential feedback to faculty in their role as supervisors, site directors, and seminar instructors, using the same web-based evaluation system. This feedback allows the program to respond to the changing needs of our residents and to advances in the field of psychiatry. Resident performance is also evaluated with the annual Psychiatry Residents in Training Examination (PRITE) administered by the American College of Psychiatrists, the Columbia Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Competency Examination, and an annual clinical performance exam (Mock Oral Boards) for senior residents.
In addition to the formal methods of evaluation, faculty provide ongoing feedback in the form of supervision, seminars, case conferences, and other less formal meetings. Once a year in the spring residents have a one-day retreat during the week to carefully review the program and curriculum and provide valuable feedback to the faculty. The close interaction of faculty and residents is one of the strengths of the UC Davis training program in psychiatry.
