Medical Student Education

UC Davis Medical Students receive didactics in cultural psychiatry and social determinants of mental health as part of their third year clerkship in psychiatry. Many students choose to complete an acting acting internship in psychiatry during the fourth year of medical school. Special Studies Modules are also available on the topics of Society and Culture in Medicine (taught by Dr. Ruth Shim and Dr. Swati Rao) and Race and Health in the United States (taught by Dr. Jann Murray-Garcia and Dr. Ruth Shim). Mentorship is available for students interested in a career in psychiatry and those who have interest in cultural psychiatry.

We also offer a Diversity Medical Student Visiting Clerkship for visiting fourth year medical students from Underrepresented in Medicine (UiM) backgrounds.
