Philosophy of Care
I seek to understand patients' systemic medical illness and psychiatric illness simultaneously, as this reflects patients' experiences. I work closely with all of the patients' physicians and other clinicians to achieve improvements in all areas of illness impacting patient function and clinical outcomes.
Clinical Interests
Dr. Bourgeois is a consultation-liaison and emergency psychiatry specializing in patients with co-morbid systemic medical and psychiatric illness, substance-use related conditions, psychopharmacology, and ECT. He has a research interest in neuropsychiatric co-morbidity in fragile X-associated conditions.
Research/Academic Interests
Dr. Bourgeois' academic interests include the diagnosis and management of neuro-cognitive disorders (e.g., delirium and dementia) in patients with other medical illnesses leading to hospitalization. He has a research interest in fragile X associated conditions as multiple psychiatric co-morbid illnesses are common in this patient population. He also has interests in modern systems of care delivery and patient outcomes.
